Somerville Immediate F/T Daycare Openings (50% off first week with enrollment)
Hello from, Lori’s Lollipop Kids Family Child Care your quality licensed, insured childcare and preschool, located in Somerville. I am currently enrolling infants and toddlers. Here at Lori’s Lollipop Kids, I provide quality daycare at an affordable rate. I am located in a quiet safe neighborhood with easy access to parks and the library. Time spent out of doors is very important so we try to go out in the morning and afternoon every day, weather permitting. We spend three days a week working on our curriculum giving plenty of time for other activities. Each child is given the opportunity to participate at a willing age. Your child will work with a wide variety of materials from books and toys to art supplies and computers. I feel it is important to encourage children without pushing them beyond their natural limits. I have worked with children for more than fourteen years. Yearly, I am First Aid and CPR certified. I differ from other childcare settings in that I provide more of a home environment while providing structure. My hours are 8am-5:30pm but I am willing to work with your family’s needs. I have references from many satisfied families I have worked with in the past. My home is newly renovated so you can be sure it is de-leaded with everything in working order. I have a large backyard that has lots of sun as well as shade. Call 617-921-3968 for more details and to set up an interview!

Amsterdam Falafelshop Joins Phfeast to Help Feed Local Families in Need
The Amsterdam Falafelshop in Davis Square is the latest restaurant to join the new social loyalty program Phfeast with the aim of benefiting local families in need. Through the Phfeast program, customer check-ins earn points towards free meals to be provided to those in need by the Amsterdam Falafelshop. “Through Phfeast our loyal customers help us to serve delicious falafel to all members of the community.” says Matt D’Alessio owner of the Amsterdam Falafelshop.

Phfeast is a new start-up founded by software developer Dan Napierski with its headquarters in the Venture Development Center at UMass Boston. When dining at participating restaurants and food trucks, customers can check-in to phfeast.com to score points that add up towards free meal rewards. Certificates for the free meals are then issued to local food pantries to be distributed to families and individuals in need. The Phfeast certificates can then be redeemed onsite allowing the beneficiaries the opportunity to dine out for free.

The Amsterdam Falafelshop in Davis Square joins all six Stone Hearth Pizza Co. locations and all three The Chicken & Rice Guys food trucks that are already active in the greater Boston area Phfeast network. “We are thrilled to bring the Phfeast program to Davis Square and to work with the Amsterdam Falafelshop to bring delicious, healthy meals to those in need.” says Dan Napierski. The Phfeast program will kick-off at Amsterdam Falafelshop officially on July 1st with the first awarded meal certificates to be donated to the Helping Hand Food Pantry in Cambridge.

NERAX Real Ale festival in Somerville this week, March 26-29
The New England Real Ale eXhibition was founded in Underbones at Redbones with a few firkins of cask-conditioned beers in 1997. After that we moved to the George Dilboy VFW Post in Davis Square, who hosted us for years as NERAX grew to become the largest continuously running Real Ale festival in the United States. Our next festival will take place near Union Square at Aeronaut Urban Farmhouse and Brewery on March 26 to 29, 2014. We expect to serve over 100 beers and ciders from the UK, Germany, and New England!

Cask-conditioning is the traditional way to serve beer. The beer is never filtered, frozen, or filled with fizz. The cool temperature and natural carbonation allows the full flavors of these artisanally brewed beers to emerge. Real Ale is the real deal, made to be enjoyed with your friends. To learn more, we have a special Tutored Tasting session from 5-6 pm on Thursday evening with our guest Steve Crossland from Loch Ness Brewing in Scotland.

Tickets will be available online until Tuesday night March 25, and after that a limited number of admissions will be available at the door.

Thursday night I found a cat on my doorstep in East Somerville, and brought her in. She's a small dilute tortie, clearly used to living with people, polite and sociable. I'd love to get her back to her humans, but really don't want to just let her out and trust she'll wander back home in the sort of weather we're having. Please let me know if you know this cat!

"Raising The Nave Porch Roof!" music fundraiser with performances by PorchFest bands Cargo Cult, Lit

Raising The Nave Porch Roof! : a music fundraiser presented by PorchFest bands Cargo Cult, Litehouse, Dirty Water Brass Band and Dust Clouds of Mars. Thursday, January 31, 8:00 pm. Suggested donation: $10. PA’s Lounge, 345 Somerville Ave., Somerville. Information: 617-776-1557, www.paslounge.com.

The “Raising The Nave Porch Roof” fundraiser is being presented by several local area PorchFest bands (www.somervilleartscouncil.org/porchfest) who are fans of the Nave Gallery and thrilled about the opening of the Gallery’s new Nave Gallery Annex, a non-profit community space located right next door to Redbones at 53 Chester St. in Davis Sq.

But there is also an ulterior motive to this fundraiser …. because the new Annex happens to have a great porch, which needs a little work but is a perfect venue to be added (hint hint) to the next annual PorchFest map. PorchFest 2012 bands have spoken and want to help make the Nave Gallery Annex porch a reality spot for 2013!
