Welcome to Somerville- burrito capitol of the world!

Think locally, whine globally.

This Sunday: Bicycle Tour of Somerville Parks, Then and Now
This Sunday, May 20, I'll be co-leading a bicycle tour of Somerville parks with the Somerville Bicycle Committee and Somerville Historic Preservation Commission. We'll meet at 2 pm at Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, departing promptly at 2:15. Please bring a $3 donation to support the Historic Preservation Commission.

Many Somerville parks used to be other things -- schools, a railroad tower, a train station, a water tower. Ride with us to learn more about our city's history.

Here's a map of our tour route, and our Facebook event. The 8.5-mile tour will go at an easy pace with several stops, and should be finished by around 4:30.

Our ride will be the last event of Bay State Bike Week.

Virtual Yard Sale (make an offer... PLEASE?)
(also posted in davis_square community so sorry if you see this twice)
So I'm having a virtual yard sale since my life has virtually gone to crap. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after 4 years of misdiagnosis, on medication number 4, lost my job and had to drop out of my doctoral program, basically the proverbial shit hit the fan and its reaching critical mass at this point. Anyway, I'm pretty desperate for some cash to pay bills so I'm going through stuff and selling anything I can part with. i'm listing some prices here but really will consider all offers (did I mention desperate?)

Here is what I have so far! feel free to negotiate

Verizon droid 2 ($75)
in great condition comes with case and charger. Its not unlocked since I'm not sure how to do that but I believe you just need to call verizon and ask for the code. I can try and do that too. Here are some pics

Starbucks brand Barista Espresso maker ($35)
This is a pretty damn sweet machine. Works perfectly even used it this morning. don't have the manual anymore but have the scoop, the head is clean, and I regularly ran it through with cleaning fluid so its been well kept.

Lexmark X6170 copier printer scanner fax ($20)
great printer that prints lots and quick. even has some ink left in it! Its a great tool if you're working on reports often or say a dissertation in which you print lots. Also great cause it has fax capabilities (use your magicjack!) and real copy capabilities (not like your scanner copying things).

Make me an offer on these:

Entourage Edge 10.1 inch Android Tablet/ Ereader

perfect condition, comes with a 16gig SD card, wireless capabilities, space for a sim card, this thing is sweet. I know its not as well known as an Ipad or anything but this opens up and has an ereader on the left and an android tablet on the right. Stylus included and all the stuff it came with. Its in great condition. Email me for more pics of this. really look it up. I had all the articles for my dissertation on it, chapters I'd written, games etc on the android side, drawings and lots of videos (plays all sorts unlike ipad).

if you're interested you can play with it before hand.

Sony DVD player
works fine. I'll take 5 bucks for it.. or anything really heh. I'm desperate

The West Wing (seasons 1-5) not sure anyone is willing to pay for this but hey..
Mad Men Season 1 & 2

I guess thats it for now. I have a Jack LaLanne power juicer that works great but I can't find the collection basket right now.. but im looking. if you're interested in that by all means let me know.

Thanks for reading, if you're interested in any of these please email me at justme(dot)notsointeresting (at) gmail (dot) com

Take a self-guided bike tour of the arts in Somerville
On October 15, the Somerville Bicycle Committee led a bike tour of places throughout Somerville where art is produced, exhibited, or performed. If you didn't ride with us last week, you can take a self-guided tour anytime with our maps and pamphlet:

http://somervillebikes.org/documents/TourMap.pdf - the entire bike tour route
http://somervillebikes.org/documents/Squares.pdf - inset maps for Davis and Union squares
http://somervillebikes.org/documents/ArtsInTheVille2011.pdf - a tour guide, with detailed descriptions and live web links for 68 art-related sites in Somerville

The maps indicate each site by number, and the tour guide describes each site and includes clickable URLs for most of them.

Please comment with any additions or corrections. Eventually I'd like to turn this project over to the Arts Council to include on their website.

ETA 11/25/11: This got trapped in somervillemass's whitelist-based moderation queue until today, which is why you're seeing it now even though I posted it over a month ago. Now that I've been added as a maintainer here, I've turned off this moderation entirely.

It’s been almost 50 years since the Beatles first came to America but their impact and presence is still felt everywhere. Beatlemania has become Beatleness – but how did this happen?

Sociologist and lifelong Beatle fan Candy Leonard interviewed hundreds of first-generation Beatle fans and will offer a unique analysis of the Beatles’ ongoing impact that will engage and delight you.

This presentation is for people of all ages – including young people who are interested in The Beatles, music, and the 60s.

Hey everyone! As some of you know, I work in Porter (please don't mention the name of the company in this post, as this post doesn't have anything to do with the company). Yesterday a man (older, greyish hair, beard, 5'8ish) came in and tried to pull a change-raising scam on me. I figured it out quickly (thanks, American Gods!) and didn't give him any extra money, but the second I said "I'll get my manager" he just left and we didn't get a chance to ID him or anything. I wanted to post this so that any of you who own or work at a business in this area can be on alert for this scam, although I suspect anyone who does this is mostly just passing through.

Groupon running out--anyone want it?
I bought 3 Groupons for a Segway ride/tour of Boston with the expectation of taking people out on the town when they came to visit me. I tried to use them up this weekend, but my husband came up lame with a bum ankle, so my friend and I went without him. His loss is your gain. Ever wanted to try a Segway? First affirmative response will get my Groupon code for a 2 hour Segway experience. I know expired Groupons are worth face value, but I don't see myself using that last slot before the 27th.

We had fun, and I hope you will, too.
